WhatsApp saves voice messages as OPUS audio in an OGG container (the file is called PTT-something.opus or .ogg when exported). OPUS is excellent for speech at tiny bitrates, but Windows Media Player, older iPhones, most car stereos and many email and transcription systems will not open it. Converting to MP3 fixes that in one step.
Because voice notes are recorded at a low bitrate, there is no benefit in a high MP3 bitrate; 128 kbps preserves everything that is there and 64 kbps is fine for pure speech. The file is decoded and encoded by FFmpeg inside your browser, which matters for voice messages that are often personal.
How to use it
- Export the voice note from WhatsApp (share or forward it to yourself, or find it in WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Voice Notes on Android).
- Drop the .opus or .ogg file here.
- Keep 128 kbps, or pick 64 kbps for the smallest file.

Frequently asked questions
My file ends in .ogg, not .opus. Will it work?
Yes. WhatsApp uses the OGG container for OPUS audio; both extensions are accepted, as are Vorbis .ogg files.
Can I convert several voice notes at once?
Not yet; batch conversion is planned for the Pro tier. Each note converts in a second or two.
Will the MP3 be larger than the OPUS file?
Yes, roughly two to four times, because MP3 is a less efficient codec. A one-minute voice note becomes about 0.5-1 MB at 64-128 kbps.
